News update: 2017-2020 Toyota Sienna Conversion

Vehicle Modifications Update from Monica DeSanto at OPWDD:

  • Toyota Sienna’s model years 2017-2020 will no longer be able to receive Braun side entry modifications if not received for processing before 3/31/21.  Braun is discontinuing their assembly line for the Toyota vehicles to set up for the new way Toyota is manufacturing their vans starting with the model year 2021.  Toyota 2021 vans are not affected by this and can still be modified.

  • VMI may still be an option for the side entry for a period of time, but this is not certain. The Braun and VMI plants are set up differently which may allow for VMI to provide the side entry lift for Toyota for a longer period of time.

  • Additionally, Dodge is no longer producing the Caravan which will further limit what people can purchase. Dodge is producing a Voyager which is much like the Pacifica and can possibly be used.

  • The only other option for lifts is Freedom Motor but they are not NAMedi certified and this at times will void the warranty of the vehicle itself. Families should check to make sure this isn’t the case before proceeding.

  • If you are aware of any Toyota vehicle modifications (model year 2017-2020) that may run into this issue please contact Monica DeSanto, AT/EM Coordinator for CNY (covering Cayuga, Cortland, Herkimer, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego counties)
